Debating Development 2009 'North-South 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall'

With the annual series “Debating Development” IOB and USOS want to offer a platform for reflection on current topics in the field of development. This year’s series of debates joins the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, on November 9 to be precise, to review the effects of this event on international politics, North-South relations and development. The debates not only focus on its effects on international geopolitics and North South relations in general, but also zoom in on its effects on specific global hot issues (development aid effectiveness, climate change) and specific regions or countries. Each topic is introduced on the basis of a presentation by a renowned speaker from the South or the North. A discussant sets the stage for further debate. There will be room for questions from the audience. Active participation is not obligatory.
